5-Year Plan

A TREATMENT PLAN THAT WORKS!

The 5-Year PlanThe leaders of the ICOTP have developed a treatment plan we believe will lead to long-term, sustained recovery from the disease of addiction.

The 5-Year Plan

  1. Intervention – A trained interventionist will meet with the addict’s family to discuss their concerns. The interventionist then helps the addict get into treatment.  Creating ROCK BOTTOM Patients are not motivated without hitting ROCK BOTTOM.  The bottom CAN be raised. It’s a myth to think you have to WAIT until the addict reaches rock bottom.
  2. Treatment Placement – The interventionist will work to find a treatment center that will meet all of the addict’s needs.
  3. Detox – Detox is a place the addicts can rid their bodies of most of the chemicals and get rest. Treatment cannot begin until this step is completed.
  4. Inpatient treatment – At this point, the addict may still not admit to having a problem. IP’s usually last 28 -30 because that’s all the insurance will cover. 90 days is the ideal, but rarely covered.
  5. IOP -Intensive Outpatient is the next step after IP treatment. It’s often where patients will hit their 90 days, IF their insurance is good. It offers continued support and therapy.
  6. Sober Living – Sober living provides the patient a safe and structured place to stay as they adjust to the world sober. We have found the longer people stay in sober living, the longer they are successful.
  7. R.A.P – This program is discussed on the next page.
  8. Random Drug Testing – Random drug testing is essential to continued sobriety. All of the successful long-term programs use sober living.
  9. 12-step – We believe working each step of the 12-step program is important. We encourage all addicts to attend meetings and get and work with a sponsor.

So let’s take a look at the R.A.P.

R.A.P (Recovery Advocate Program)

The Recovery Advocate Program is built upon the establishment of a clear understanding of what each individual’s recovery program will look like.

It is based on 2 key components…  The Recovery Advocates themselves and a behavioral contract.

For at least a year – and up to 5 years – the Recovery Advocate works with the client, the client’s family, and treatment professional to develop, implement, and most important, to ensure the client is keeping compliant with treatment plan.

The Behavioral Contract clearly lays out guidelines as to what is expected for the next year and up to 5 years.  The guidelines also will also help to establish healthy behaviors and the consequences if the client isn’t living them.

The Recovery Advocate will be in close contact with the addict to provide support and family consequences. They make it so families know how to support recovery and not the addiction. They work with every member of the client’s treatment team, including the client’s sponsor and therapist. By giving the addict clear guidelines and a constant person to talk to, the chance they will be successful is greater. We all work best with structure, and this is the first step to have it spelled out clearly.

The numbers don’t lie. Long-term treatment works.
